Some Things I Have Been Reading

I was reading out of GRACE FOR THE MOMENT Inspirational Thoughts for Each Day of the Year by Max Lucado, and I just wanted to share a couple things that I found interesting.

A Place of Permanence

You've been there. You've escaped the sandy foundations of the valley and ascended his grand outcropping of granite. You've turned your back on the noise and sought his voice. You've stepped away from the masses and followed the Master as he led you up the winding path to the summit....
Gently your guide invites you to sit on the rock above the tree line and look out with him at the ancient peaks that will never erode. "What is necessary is still what is sure," he confides. "Just remember:
"You'll go nowhere tomorrow that I haven't already been.
"Truth will still triumph....
"The victory is yours...."
The sacred summit. A place of permanence in a world of transition.

The LORD will always lead you.
---Isaiah 58:11

Four Habits Worth Having

Growth is the goal of the Christian. Maturity is mandatory. If a child ceased to develop, the parent would be concerned, right?...
When a Christian stops growing, help is needed. If you are the same Christian you were a few months ago, be careful. You might be wise to get a checkup. Not on your body, but on your heart. Not a physical, but a spiritual.
May I suggest one?...
Why don't you check your habits?... Make these four habits regular activities and see what happens.
First, the habit of prayer.... Second, the habit of study.... Third, the habit of giving.... And last of all, the habit of fellowsip.

"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." ---2 Peter 3:18 (NIV)

More commentaries

Again, it is interesting how specific God is with His instructions to Aaron and Moses and the different tribes.

It is important to note, that the priests were given the responsibility of the Kohathites. It does not say whether or not the Kohathites themselves knew that they would die if they touched the holy things when they were being transported, only that the priests were responsible to make sure everything was covered. What would have happened if the priests hadn't met that responsibility? They would have been guilty of the death of other people. So it is with us, God has given us responsibilities of ministry and service, and holds their blood on our heads.

The second thing to note is that the body of Christ will not function correctly and properly if some of its parts decide to take leave of the body because they have issues with the other parts.

One kidney can expand and do the work of two if necessary. But what happens if both are not functioning? The other parts are not gifted and adapted to take that spot, to take on the responsibility. Can a heart do the work of kidney? Maybe, if it could change itself into a kidney, but then the body would be worse off because it would then not have a heart. Read here for more info on that subject. So it is, then, biblical and not just practical, that one part's problems become the whole body's problems.

Up-Date on Battle of the Sexes

Here is what happened during The Battle of the Sexes...

The girls scored 2 points, whereas the guys scored 5 points. Yes, the guys won. But the biggest "guy" event was the car push, and guess who won... you guessed it the girls. Woo Hoo, go girls! Everyone had fun and I am sure the guys enjoyed their winning prizes.

Pictures and a video clip of Will dressed up as a woman, and Lisa dressed up as a man will be posted soon. There are also pictures of the Sweet Corn Festival that will also be posted soon. So keep checking out this site for more updates.

If anyone has any comment that they would like to add about the Sweet Corn Festival or even The Battle of the Sexes please click on the comment link. Tell me what your favorite thing was or least favorite thing, any ministry opportunities, the fellowship, or anything that you would like to say.

Thank you!

Leviticus 18

It is interesting here, that God gave to the Israelites and us this set of laws regarding the boundary of marriage, and most of them our culture follows. Incest, for example, is a horror and a shock to our culture. Zoophilia is something that we may here about once in awhile, but again it is usually not accepted. Culturally, it is not acceptable, but there are always exceptions to it. But my point here is, out of all laws given by God in this chapter, people aren't fighting to get zoophilia legalized. People aren't fighting for equal rights for those who commit incest. But when it comes to homosexuality, then it's a very sensitive issue, like abortion. People assume that you're on one side of the fence or the other. But what nonbelievers and some Christians don't understand, is that this belief is coming from human desire to change the rules to fit what we want to do. We don't want to be wrong, and we don't want to have to change. We find excuses, that God's word is meant to be interpreted to fit today's culture, that the people who teach it don't know what they are talking about and we know better than them. But the scriptures condemn this mindset. God's word is God's word, He made it, and it is not subject to change. Every word of God is flawless, and when we add our ideas and our thoughts about how it should be then we are condemned. We need to trust in God's word %100, and not question it, because we read in the Scriptures that nations were destroyed by God himself because of what they did. And which is worse? Committing one sin, and then repenting, or surrendering to the god of human logic and the god of culture, turning the back of a hardened heart to God, and committing who knows how much more sin until we are finally restored to repentance, if we are. Let us begin to apply the Word of God in our lives, so we can be better servants to this community and to ourselves.

Exodus 25-27

At first, the instructions for the tabernacle seem overly complicated; but God seems to have all this planned out. Which He did, knowing ahead of time when and where He would speak to Moses. God is very precise and exact with His directions and measurements. God orders Moses to do his building exactly what is shown him three times: 25:9, 40; and 27:8.

Only God himself deserves such a fine resting place. He could have built it for himself in an instant; yet He chose to have it built by human hands, because He wanted to dwell with the Israelites. He could have said, "now I have brought you out of Egypt, you're on your own." Jesus could have said to His disicples and us, "I died on the cross to forgive your sins. Do you want to go heaven? Cool, I'll see you when you get there." But that's not how it works. God had His tabernacle designed here on earth by human hands because He wanted to dwell amoung the Israelites and live among them. And when Jesus died on the cross, God chose a place to dwell even closer to us: our hearts.
