new features and The Discussion

New additions to the side bar:
The Verse of the Day, as well as two pictures and the lists of blogs and journals. Any feedback anyone would like to offer about the new content is more than welcome.

Sunday the 24th we had a really good discussion. We talked about the ministry ideas that we want to do over the summer, and this is what was recorded, put on the web as a reminder so everyone can be thinking about it until the time comes to develop some of these ideas. And as Ed was telling me yesterday, ideas are great, but they will never become anything but ideas if we don't DO something, followup, commit, sacrifice, and make it a priority to work together as a team and individually to spread the Gospel of Christ that we profess to believe in.

This is what we discussed:
  • special events
  • sweet corn festival / tracts
  • individual tasks / jobs
  • group tasks
  • Magic Waters
  • incoming freshman
  • tournaments
  • small groups / informal bible studies hosted in someone's house
  • meeting outside of youth group for one on one study/ work/ encouragement
  • frequent advertisement
  • follow ups/calling people
  • Cookie Ministry
  • Paw Paw event
  • concert
  • participation
  • free food
  • door prizes
  • library of books and music
  • The Box
  • fund raising (Colleen)
  • newsletter
  • bulletin board

Lewis and I are planning a scavenger hunt set for May 14th.

Lisa is in charge of planning the fund raising for Colleen.

If anyone thinks of anything more, feel free to comment. But let us not forget these ideas! This will require commitment and sacrifice from everybody. Expect to be asked to do some jobs and tasks mentioned above. But be honest and say if you're not willing to make the commitment, because business and work and other excuses like that are only that, excuses. We have to continue to work while we still have the opportunity! We have time for what we want to have time for, therefore a person's attendance and willingness to serve are an indication of how much they really care about the youth group. It is hard to be active and do things, and keep tabs on things, if work gets in the way. I am not saying that everybody has to attend every time we meet, nor am I saying that it is a sin to miss, but think about it... your earthly commitments reflect your divine commitments!

Don't Look Away!

How many people have ever been to a party or celebration (example: birthday party, a family reunion, etc.)? And when everyone at the party is having a good time, who wants to be the first one to leave? I know that I don't want to leave. In fact, I want to be the last person to leave - even if I am not doing anything but watching everyone else.

I want to emphasize on verse 26 which says, "But Lot's wife looked back as she was following along behind him, and she became a pillar of salt."

Whenever I read things from the Bible, I like to imagine the things that happened or what it would have been like if I were in their shoes. Therefore, picture this as a play or skit:

Lot is played by Eric
Lot's wife is played by me.
Here we are... Eric and I are married living in our home in the city. We live near our friends and family. Outside our home, in the city, is a party going on much like Mardi Gras. Then out of the blue, Eric comes to me and tells me that we need to leave our home, friends, and family because he says that he saw angels sent from the Lord who told him that they were going to destroy the city that we live in. I am skeptical that this is really going to happen. Therefore, I am faced with a decision to follow my husband, Eric, who believes he saw angels sent from the Lord or I could stay at home with the rest of my friends and family. I decide to follow my husband, who might I add is following the Lord. But then, Eric tells me that if I look back at everything that I have left behind then I am going to turn into a pillar of salt. I'm thinking, "You've got to be kidding me, a pillar of salt. Yeah right!" But I still decide to follow Eric. As we are traveling away from our home, friends, and family, I begin to remember all of the memories that were shared within those city walls. I begin to wonder if anyone noticed us leaving the party that was going on. I want to take one quick glance, but then I remember, according the angels that my husband believes that he saw, I will turn into a pillar of salt. It is so tempting because I hear everyone enjoying themselves and I want to be with them, so I slowly turn my head and out of the corner of my eye I see the place that I used to live, and I see my friends and family. At that same moment I turned into a pillar of salt, just like my husband said. Now, I am nothing. I am not living, not breathing. I am nothing, and with one breeze I am swept away.
